DAB and DAB +, the standard for digital terrestrial transmission of radio, had a difficult start in Germany. While in England DAB transmission has long been part of everyday life in most households, network expansion in Germany has been slow. The lack of acceptance was due on the one hand to the inadequate political control of network expansion, but also to the positioning of DAB as a technology only for mobile devices, in particular for radio reception in the car.

The advantages for DAB and DAB + are also obvious for stationary radio reception: the reception quality of all stations is clear: either a station can be heard without errors or not at all. There is no noise and atmospheric noise. The quality of the signal essentially depends on the quality of the transmitter, above all on the bandwidth used; and of course the quality of the radio.

With the MTUN +, radio friends now have a receiver that leaves nothing to be desired. By using the latest technologies, we are now able to increase the playback quality in the DAB (+) standard in such a way that it can be compared to CD and record players.

Of the almost 30 broadcasters nationwide and the numerous stations that can be received locally, more and more people are using a bandwidth of at least 128 kbps to enable undisturbed music enjoyment. Basically, the MTUN + could receive programs up to a bandwidth of 384 kbps. Current station lists are published on the digitalradio.de website. This page is a joint offer by ARD, Deutschlandradio, DRD Digitalradio Deutschland GmbH and Media Broadcast.

In addition to the two digital standards DAB and DAB +, the RESTEK MTUN + digital radio also supports classic FM reception, so that radio enthusiasts can receive all of their well-known FM stations in the same high quality as the new DAB (+) stations. There is no more future security. And at the moment, the transmission quality of FM stations, as long as they can be received easily on site, is surely superior to that of DAB and DAB +.

As with the two RESTEK digital radios for satellite and cable reception, a high-quality sample rate converter and a high-quality 24-bit 192 kS multibit digital-to-analog converter also allow the setting of a large number of bit resolutions and converter rates in the MTUN + Users.

Using the switchable volume control, the signal can be attenuated down to -99 dB in 1 dB steps, making it possible to connect the tuner directly to active speakers or a power amplifier.

The low output resistance of 50 ohms and the maximum current of up to 35 mA rms of these driver stages enable a correct line adaptation and the loss-free use of sometimes inevitably long connection cables.

All parts of the electronics of the MUN + are DC-coupled, so that the transmission of low-frequency tones in the best quality is possible. There are no capacitors or electrolytic capacitors in the signal path that could cause corruption. Noise and crosstalk are only perceptible at the measurement limit.

Like all other RESTEK hi-fi devices in the M series, the DAB (+) tuner can be operated with a single multifunction rotary pushbutton or optionally with a remote control.
