Description
"CD players all sound equally good" - that is what many experts suspected when introducing CD technology in 1977. After all, it was all about decoding digital data. And zeros and ones are always zeros and ones forever. What should change there? Five years later, when the first CD players were actually available for purchase, many were still convinced that price differences between devices from different manufacturers could only be justified by a more or less complex design.
Today, every child knows that one and the same CD, played on different CD drives, also sounds completely different. Almost everything that makes a CD player has an impact on the sound: the drive suspension, the feet of the housing, the reading head, and last but not least the digital-to-analog converter, which ultimately turns music into zeros and ones.
Ultimately, the listener is always right about the music, not the technical data: there are excellent CD players from different manufacturers, whose developers adhere to completely different philosophies: some insist on upsampling, i.e. an increase in the sampling rate of 44.1 kHz double or more. Others shy away from this technology like the devil do holy water because they fear increased jitter when upsampling.
The RESTEK CD player: matured in years with the latest technology
We at RESTEK do not adhere to beliefs, at least not when it comes to the best possible reproduction of music. We measure "what comes out at the back" and more importantly: we simply listen carefully and improve our products in development until we know: it doesn't get any better! At least not with comparable effort. We are therefore convinced that with the RESTEK EPOS + we have developed the best CD player in its price range. And many listeners and trade journalists agree with us in this assessment.
The design of the EPOS goes back to the year 2000 - a little eternity for digital devices. We have hardly changed the essential design features since 1987. And the RESTEK EPOS still looks modern - classic, timeless. And the EPOS still sounds fantastic, better than ever. Technologically, we have always adapted our CD player to current technological developments over the years.
The RESTEK EPOS + CD player works with the latest technology
A pure audio drive is used for the drive of the RESTEK EPOS +. We are convinced that the commonly used computer or DVD drives are not the first choice in audio players. One of the best recognized pure audio drives is used in the EPOS +: a Philipps CDM-Pro-2-M. The quality standard is continued with the well-known OPA 627 OP amplifier from Burr & Brown.
The shorter the cables in a music system, the better. Nevertheless: the RESTEK EPOS + has an output impedance of relatively low 50 ohms. Therefore, the cables between the CD player and the (pre) amplifier can also be a little longer. The RESTEK can cope with that, with the cinch or XLR sockets chosen by the listener.
A CD player with top loading and best ergonomics
With a top loader, the CD is inserted into the top of the drive, which is perfectly protected from dust and light under a flap. This means that you need a little space above the device to insert and remove the silver discs. There are no push or pull mechanisms prone to errors. When it comes to long-term quality, there is nothing to top a top loader
Like all devices in the RESTEK "E-Class", the EPOS requires an on-off switch and a multi-function rotary pushbutton. The usual functions such as forward and rewind, skip, repeat, random or normal playback can of course also be controlled via the optionally available remote control. With the converter, the listener can choose between a 20-bit or 24-bit mode. The converter dithering can also be set in seven stages, the phase can be regulated.
Of course, we at RESTEK always strive to keep your EPOS + up to date with the latest technology using suitable upgrade offers. That is why at RESTEK an apparently fast-moving good like a CD player is a device that can be passed on with good care. That is why CD technology has a future with us.
