Description
The tuner is certainly the most technically complex device in the network of hi-fi source devices. This applies no less in the digital age than in the analogue one. A cable tuner must be able to precisely filter out the hi-fi signal of the called station in the chaos of the different digital frequencies surrounding it. By using the latest technologies, we are now able to increase the playback quality of a DVB-C audio-only radio in such a way that it can be compared to CD and record players.
When developing this high-quality digital radio for cable reception, we were able to draw on our extensive experience and knowledge gained through the development and production of our famous analog reference radios.
With the MACB + tuner, we have potentially separated the entire cable reception technology from the audio electronics. In this way we avoid hum loops and coupling. A high-quality sample rate converter and an equally high-quality 24-bit 192 kS multibit digital to analog converter make it possible to set a large number of bit resolutions and conversion rates in order to achieve the highest possible level of sound resolution.
Using the volume control, which can be switched on and off, the signal can be attenuated down to -99 dB in 1 dB steps. The volume control also allows the MACB + tuner to be connected directly to active speakers or a power amplifier. This creates a high-quality, small, complete system for the passionate radio gourmet.
The drivers of the analog RCA outputs establish the connection to the preamplifier, the power amplifiers or the active loudspeakers. The low output resistance of 50 ohms and the maximum current of up to 35 mA rms of these driver stages enable correct line adaptation on the one hand and on the other hand the use of sometimes unavoidable long connection cables without impairing the music signal by the cables.
All parts of the MCAB electronics are DC-coupled, which enables error-free transmission of even the lowest frequencies. There are no capacitors or electrolytic capacitors in the signal path that could distort the reproduction. Noise and crosstalk are inaudible and only perceptible at the technical measuring limit.
Like all other RESTEK devices in the M series, the cable tuner has been optimized for ease of use: the operation of all functions using a single multifunction switch is straightforward and is part of the device's minimalist design.
