Technical durability requirements are particularly stringent for tube amplifiers. The CTA407 addresses this with specialized technologies; for instance, it automatically adjusts to any tube in the 6550/KT88/KT120/KT150 family, virtually eliminating the risk of tube failure due to user error.

Design
Most Copland amplifiers are characterized by a certain luxurious purism. With the CTA407 integrated tube amplifier, Copland has taken this concept to the next level, creating what we consider to be one of the most beautiful amplifiers of all time. It maintains a commitment to simplicity while incorporating a significant amount of electronics to support the amplifier's audio stages. The forty LEDs on the front panel (10 for each tube) are the visual component of the CTA407’s tube biasing and diagnostic system. And yes, the LEDs can be turned off if you do not wish to constantly monitor the status of your output tubes.

Features
The CTA407 features five line-level inputs, including a tape monitoring loop. The integrated phono preamplifier supports both moving-magnet and high-output moving-coil cartridges. The CTA407 features motorized volume control and is fully controllable via the Copland RC102A remote control.

Performance
The push-pull output stages utilize a pair of matched power tubes in a fixed ultra-linear configuration, combining the low distortion of triodes with the power of tetrodes. While a push-pull pair of 6550 or KT-family tubes is capable of delivering over 100 watts of output, the CTA407 intentionally limits this to 2 x 50 watts in high-biased Class A/AB mode. In practice, this means the amplifier delivers the majority of its power in Class A operation, resulting in low distortion and a highly musical sound.

Sound
Thanks to the exceptional quality of its output transformers, the Copland CTA407 achieves outstanding linearity prior to the application of feedback. This reduces the need for internal compensation networks while maintaining high stability.
